#Giants, not #RedSox, land Mitch Haniger in 3-year, $44 million deal says @JeffPassan.

Stop me if you've heard this before, but outfielder Haniger was of interest to BOS, as reported by @jonmorosi a few days ago.

I think few teams have great track records with long term deals. My view is that they're the nature of the beast. Insisting on avoiding them is akin to saying you're willing to be non-competitive.

The rest of the league doesn't share the aversion.

@RSNStats The team does not have a good track record with long-term contracts. Beckett, Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford, David Price, Sale, even Pedroia at the end.

Sure, maybe a couple are exceptions but only one finished with the team and Sale is TBD.

This argument comes up now and again. Sure, back half of long term deals often don't pan out. That's life in the Major Leagues. You can certainly go with bands of no-names on short term deals.

But anyhow, they're the one's saying he's their No. 1 priority. If he isn't, he isn't.

@RSNStats If he gets 8 years… do you know what the last 4 will look like? I get moving on from X. Chaims mistake was not signing him to the extension last year. Now it is too long and too much… don’t compound one error with another. Unless Xander accepts less the Sox are moving on.
