Major League Baseball is mandating all clubs implement upgraded security this season, including the mandatory use of hand-held metal detectors or walk-through magnetometers for all fans. The new requirements are in addition to bag check procedures that were already in place. The new guidelines were developed in consultation with the Department of Homeland Security and are part of MLB’s Stadium Operations Practices for 2015.
Many clubs had implemented metal detectors over the past two seasons, but starting in 2015 it’s required for all clubs by Opening Day. Only the Cubs have been given an extra 30 days to comply with the new regulations due to extensive renovations underway at Wrigley Field.
