Jackie Bradley became the latest Red Sox with triples in back-to-back games. The first came Sunday against the Tigers, the second on Tuesday facing the Marlins. Bradley is the second Red Sox this season with triples in two straight games, joining Alejandro De Aza, who did so July 1st and 2nd against the Blue Jays. The last Red Sox with triples in back-to-back games was Stephen Drew on June 25th and 26th, 2013.
Triples in consecutive games is relatively uncommon, but triples in three straight games is downright rare. In Red Sox history since 1914 it has happened just nine times, most recently by Nomar Garciaparra, June 10-12, 2003. Other Red Sox who’ve accomplished the feat: Wade Boggs (1989), Jim Rice (1978), Lenny Green (1965), Tony Lupien (1942), Rabbit Warstler (1930), Phil Todt (1925), Stuffy McInnis (1921), and Harry Hooper (1920).
Just once has a Boston player tripled in a club-best four games. That came in Garciaparra’s All-Star 2003 season, May 31-June 4, the very season in which he’d triple in three straight games starting just six days later. Nomar’s streak of four games with triples came with two in Toronto at the Blue Jays and then one in each game of a doubleheader facing the Pirates in Pittsburgh. Garciaparra slashed .301 AVG/.345 OBP/.524 SLG in 2003, one of four Red Sox with .300+ AVG that fateful season that ended dreadfully with an Aaron Boone walk off in American League Championship Series.
No player on any MLB club since 1914 has had more consecutive games with triples than Garciaparra.
