Major League Baseball announced some of the postseason umpiring crews on Tuesday. For the American League Division Series with the Red Sox it will be crew chief Mike Winters (pictured here at Fenway in 2005) along with Cory Blaser, Dan Bellino, regular season crew chief Fieldin Culbreth, Angel Hernandez and D.J. Reyburn.
Five of the six umpires for the ALDS have previous postseason experience, with Winters leading the pack, having officiated in four World Series, six League Championship Series, 10 Division Series and three Wild Card Games.
For Umpire D.J. Reyburn, the 2018 ALDS will be his first postseason assignment.
Boston’s Game 1 starter, Chris Sale, is 1-1 with a 3.32 ERA in 3 career starts with Umpire Blaser behind the plate.
The Sox’ Game 2 starter, David Price, is 1-0 with a 2.33 ERA in 3 career starts with Umpire Bellino behind the plate.
The Replay Officials during the Division Series will be Umpires Marvin Hudson, Brian Knight, David Rackley and Bill Welke.
Umpire Gerry Davis, who has been selected crew chief for the American League Wild Card game between the Athletics and Yankees, will be appearing in his 144th postseason game, the most such appearances in major league history. Davis is followed on that list by Joe West (123 games) and retired officials Bruce Froemming & Jerry Crawford (111 each).
