Quick news: Red Sox Jacoby Ellsbury, Stephen Drew, and Mike Napoli (as well as the 10 other MLB players who received them) have now officially rejected their $14.1 million qualifying offers to play with their teams in 2014.
The decisions mean that if any of them sign with another club the player’s former team gets a draft pick as compensation between 1st and 2nd rounds of the 2014 amateur draft. What’s more, teams that sign a free agent who received a qualifying offer must forfeit their 1st round draft pick, but not if it’s a Top 10 pick (in which case they lose a 2nd round pick).
