Red Sox at Tigers in Game 3

Comerica_Park,_Detroit

Comerica Park

After a big win Sunday the Red Sox face the Tigers in their stadium, Comerica Park, where Boston is 30-25 for all time, 1-3 in the 2013 regular season.

Here’s how our team and the Tigers batters have fared against Tuesday’s starters. First, Red Sox batters’ career performance vs Justin Verlander, followed by the same for Tigers batters vs John Lackey. Both are sorted by batting average:

There are some scary numbers in the Tigers lineup vs. Lackey, but Lackey’s been pitching since 2002 and his performance this year has been stellar. So, I thought it might worthwhile to narrow the focus a bit and look at the Tigers vs Lackey in the shorter term. Since he didn’t play in 2012 my sample size was reduced solely to the 2013 regular season. Better, but still some daunting numbers:

And for good measure, here’s how the Red Sox did in the 2013 regular season vs Justin Verlander:

Overall, the Red Sox were 3-4 vs the Tigers in the regular season. It was the first losing season to Detroit since 2007, when Boston also went 3-4 vs the Tigers.
