Wade Miley: Baseball fine as it is

On the heels of what he called an “embarrassing” outing Sunday, one of the game’s fastest workers, Red Sox Wade Miley, says baseball doesn’t have to speed the game to attract new fans.

Some people have a passion for baseball and enjoy watching it and some people don’t. Why are we trying so hard to make the people who don’t (like it), watch it. Baseball’s baseball. It’s been great for so long. Why try starting to mess with it now?” — Wade Miley

In an interview with Christopher Smith of masslive.com Miley said he doesn’t support the use of a pitch clock, despite the fact that his work would likely not be effected. He took 19.0 seconds between pitches last year, 4th-fastest in the majors.

This far Miley is 1-2 as a Red Sox with an 8.62 ERA in 4 starts. He was 8-12, 4.34 ERA in 33 starts with the Diamondbacks in 2014.
