Pawtucket Red Sox Chairman (and former Red Sox president and CEO) Larry Lucchino made a key appointment today naming his one-time assistant, Dr. Charles Steinberg, to be president of the Triple-A club. Steinberg had been Executive Vice President and Senior Advisor to Lucchino in Boston.
For 10 non-consecutive years Steinberg has been the club’s public relations and community relations specialist. He arrived with the new ownership group in 2002 but spent four years away from the club working for both the Dodgers and as a Senior Advisor to MLB Commissioner Bud Selig.
Fans know Steinberg’s work, if not the man himself. He’s architected of so many memorable moments at Fenway Park, including the ceremonies following the Boston Marathon tragedy, the park’s 100th anniversary, and the farewell tribute to Derek Jeter.
Steinberg will continue as a senior advisor to new Red Sox president Sam Kennedy.
In addition to Steinberg, two other key Lucchino lieutenants moved to new roles in Rhode Island. Dan Rea, Special Assistant to the President/CEO at the Red Sox was named senior vice president/general manager of the PawSox, and Jeff White, the Red Sox’ Financial Advisor to the President/CEO, will be the PawSox’ Treasurer.
