After this season’s Spring Training, the Red Sox didn’t have far to go. They opened the 2018 regular season with six games against the Rays and Marlins just a few miles away from their spring encampment at Fort Myers, Florida. Next year, though, will be a very different story.
The new major league schedule came out this week and it places the Sox in Seattle on Opening Day, Thursday March 28, 2019.
Boston’s four game series against the Mariners next season will mark their first opening set on the west coast since 2008, when they started their campaign facing the Oakland Athletics.
Traveling from Florida to Washington state might be a long way to go, but it’s not as far at the Mariners will travel to get back home. They’ll open their season at the Tokyo Dome in Japan on March 20-21 against the Athletics.
From Seattle, the Sox will visit Oakland and Arizona before heading to Boston for the home opener on April 9th at Fenway Park against the Toronto Blue Jays.
New to the schedule next season is a two-game set in London between the Sox and the Yankees, June 29 and 30 at London Stadium.
Interleague Matchups
The Red Sox will play in four National League parks next season (at Arizona Diamondbacks, Colorado Rockies, San Diego Padres, and Philadelphia Phillies).
2019 will have Boston hosting the NL clubs from Los Angeles and San Francisco. The matchups with Dodgers and Giants will be just the 6th regular season meetings between the Sox and each of these storied franchises at Fenway Park.
The Red Sox will also face the Rockies and Phillies at Fenway next season.
