A less impressive
Pedroia milestone

We’ve seen Dustin Pedroia reach some impressive milestones in the past few days. Wednesday’s 4-3 Red Sox victory over the Reds included one that’s less so impressive.

Pedroia struck out 4 times in Game 34 matching a career-high for just the 2nd time (he also did so on May 4, 2011 vs the Angels). But an @RSNStats follower on Twitter posed a question that required a little more research:

It turns out that, in his career and including last night, of 421 strikeouts, Pedroia has struck out on 3 pitches 61 times (14.4% of the time).

But @SoxLunch was right. In none of those 61 quick strikeouts has Pedroia ever done it in back-to-back appearances—until last night.

For extra credit, here’s a look, as of today, at total career strikeouts for Red Sox batters sorted by how frequently they have struck out on three straight pitches.
