With a two-run, go-ahead blast for the American League, Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran earned Most Valuable Player honors at the All-Star Game.
Duran, playing in his first-ever ASG, is just the fifth Sox player to be named MVP joining Hall of Famers Carl Yastrzemski (1970), Pedro Martinez (1999), as well as Roger Clemens (1986) and J.D. Drew (2008).
Duran was the fifth Sox batter ever with a go-ahead home run in an All-Star Game, the first since Adrián González in 2011 off of Phillies pitcher Cliff Lee. Others to do that are Hall of Famers Ted Williams (1941) and Bobby Doerr (1943) as well as Fred Lynn, who hit go-ahead home runs in back-to-back years (1979-80).
Duran is just the ninth Boston batter ever with multiple RBI in an All-Star Game, the first since J.D. Drew in 2008. Hall of Famer Ted Williams had three such games and Fred Lynn had two. At just 27 years old, I like Duran’s chances of joining those guys one day.
