Duran’s Three Doubles

The Red Sox extended their winning streak to five games with a win on Monday at Minnesota. You can read about that everywhere. But the standout for RSNStats was the performance of Jarren Duran, who connected for three doubles in three consecutive at-bats.

Duran is the only Major League player with three doubles in multiple games this season (also April 28 against Cleveland), and the first to do that in the American League since Reese McGuire connected for three doubles in two games of 2021 with Toronto.

In Red Sox history, there aren’t many who have had three doubles in multiple games of a season. Duran is just the seventh, joining Rafael Devers (2019), Victor Martinez (2019), Mike Lowell (2006), Dwight Evans (1980), and Hall of Famers Wade Boggs (1991) and Babe Ruth (1918). Lowell is the only one of this group with three games with three doubles in a single Sox season.

Duran, Devers, and Ruth are the only Red Sox with three doubles in multiple games of a single season before turning 27 years old.

Not many 3-for-3 nights would be cut short, but Duran’s was when he was lifted for Rob Refsynder in the top of the sixth inning against a new Twins pitcher. Duran became just the fourth Sox batter ever with three doubles in a 3-for-3 night, joining Reggie Jefferson on June 12, 1997 and Hall of Famers Carl Yastrzemski on July 29, 1967, and Joe Cronin on September 5, 1940.
